The iPhone 1.1.3 uprade is a piece of poop
| update on the PS: thanks to ryan sending me this link and visnu putting up with my we tod did questions on how to do it, i now have a david bowie ring tone. danzig is next. maybe. |
I am not one to throw terms like “firmware” around. I am not normally one that is into gadgets. But I now own an iPhone and I use it with some frequency. Lots of Apple hype this week because of MacWorld up the street (Seriously? Who goes to those things?). People acting stupid over the new laptop Air and whether solid state is worth all that moolah. People fawning over their new ads (yes, the one on the front page of the NYT online was creative). But also the iPhone software upgrade (1.1.3) came out and I stupidly allowed the upgrade - and now I hate my phone.
My phone is generally retarded now. Freezes on most screens - including the unlock function. Get an SMS and click “view” - it displays an empty page, the type pad hangs for a solid minute every 3rd word or so, the email application hasn’t figured out how to stay synced or download mail in less than 5 minutes, the address insertion is idiotic, you get the idea.
Totally bogus.
PS - This is a different gripe that goes something like - What gives? You pay 400 bucks for a phone that is not as sturdy as they claim (see nicks and scratches for proof) and have to pay 15 bucks for a screen protector (ie, a piece of plastic - 15 bucks. No shit.) to be told that you can’t make ringtones from music you ALREADY OWN unless you bought it from iTunes and then pay them additional money to use the music you ALREADY OWN.

Mine has crashed multiple times too since I upgraded. Didn’t happen with 1.1.2.
I’m developing an app for the iPhone. Tell you about it soon.

Exact same problem here. My phone was never Jailbroken or hacked. I was running 1.1.2 it was the most stable phone I ever had (compared to Windows Mobile). Then I did the 1.1.3 upgrade and all I get is 10+ freezes a day. I took it to Apple, they gave me a new phone with 1.1.2, took it home updated IT and same thing. Freezing daily! Now I’m going to get a THIRD phone and I won’t upgrade again until 1.1.4. To hell with this. I really like the triangulation feature and the fact that my reception has significantly improved but what good is all that if the phone is frozen CONSTANTLY!!

Ok, I retract my previous comments. After a few days of 1.1.3, my phone is sucking. Roughly the same problems everyone here is seeing.

Danzig would be awesome. First few lines of “Mother” and you have a winner.
PS - I’m calmly freaking out about going India on Friday. So unprepared.
It’s 2:30 and I have to drive to New Jersey. ugh.

i have the same problem.. 1.1.2 was great.. updated to 1.1.3 now its not so great..it will freeze up 5 or 10 times a day and more.. apples update is no good.. if you have 1.1.2 stay there.. seems to be no going back..

i took mine to the apple store and after 3 hours of not being able to do anything about it and me refusing to leave til they did they gave me a new phone. the ones still in the stores haven’t been upgraded yet. i feel a bit guilty about it, but happy to have 1.1.2 back.
